This auction was initiated to pay for Babybear's
second surgery, as per my email dated 6-22-08
to 80+ groups, soliciting donated items. This
surgery was totally paid for through the
combined fundraising efforts of Dogster
friends ($1500.00 on the surgery) and this
auction ($1550.) as well as almost $1000.00 was
generated in personal donations to Val
towards aftercare from this auction alone.
Valerie agreed on 7-18-08 in writing via email
to use excess monies for other pupsters.
At a later date, Val requested that all monies
raised be sent directly to herself.
After consulting with attorney, The remainder
monies were donated to two separate causes.
I chose these two Funds because of their
overall good for Yorkies in need that don't fall
into the major fundraising categories.
First Dr. Sharon Center, for research to find
the DNA markers for genetic problems. Dr.
Center, who has studied the genetic
aspects of PSVA and MVD for four
years, recently received an AKC Canine
Health Foundation grant to identify
the genetic mutations responsible for
the disease. Besides Yorkshire Terrier,
breeds involved in the study are Border
Terrier, Cairn Terrier, Havanese, Maltese,
Miniature Schnauzer, Norfolk Terrier,
Papillon, Pug, Shih Tzu, Smooth Fox
Terrier, and Tibetan Spaniel.
Secondly to Dinks Memorial fund. Dink's fund
assists individuals in emergency situations
when the person has no other was to pay for a
life threatening problem. In memory of Dink,
this fund has been established so that lack of
money for veterinary care need not prevent
any Yorkie in need from living a life as full of
love and free of suffering as Dink led.
